Quality family time seems to be a thing of the past. As a society, we are programming ourselves and our children to be constantly in front of a screen. Doctors used to frown on letting kids watch TV. Now, we take our screens everywhere we go, and everything we do involves a screen.
Sunday’s at our house, we try to take a break from the boutique and still try to do a Sunday family dinner. Sadly, most of the seats are empty and have been empty for some time. When life gets back to normal, we will fill those seats again.
This past Sunday, as I was cleaning up, I looked across the kitchen to see my father in law playing checkers with our daughter and my husband playing a boardgame with our son. This made my momma heart happy. Of course, we’re guilty of allowing too much screen time. We get so wrapped up in our everyday lives and forget to “stop and smell the roses” just like everybody.
I am going to make a conscious effort to ensure we enjoy the simplicity of boardgames and family time more often. When the weather turns warm, walks to see the neighbors peacocks, strolls along the mountain trail near Lykens, PA to find the teepees everyone was talking about last year, and more campfires to roast hotdogs and marshmallows. There won’t be any screens on these little trips.
